Your Cruise Manager will be with you every step of your journey, as well as expertly trained Egyptologists
The shore excursion days in Egypt are full and rewarding. You’ll travel in one of two modern, air-conditioned buses—each with Wi-Fi and bathrooms—and you’ll stay with the same group and Egyptologist guide throughout the week. Most days begin in the morning and return in the afternoon, with lunch either enjoyed at a local restaurant or back on the ship.
In Egypt, having a knowledgeable guide—especially an Egyptologist—is essential. Exploring independently is neither recommended nor practical due to the complexity, size, and structure of the sites. Your guide will maximize your time, ensuring you see the most important highlights efficiently and with deeper insight.
That said, each site includes time for breaks and shopping. In Luxor, you’ll have the opportunity to shop for local goods. At Abu Simbel, you can explore the temples together, relax at the on-site restaurant, or browse the small shops. At the Pyramids, the visit is more structured, so wandering off on your own won’t be possible.
If you’re ever feeling tired or want to skip a portion of the tour, you're welcome to return to the bus and rest until the group heads back to the ship.
All bookings must have the correct name(s) exactly as it appears on the passport. This will also avoid any airline-imposed change fees that will be the guest’s responsibility should the name on the air tickets not match your FULL name shown on your passport. In addition, passports MUST have at least TWO empty Visa labeled pages for each country visited on this trip.
Egypt: An Egypt VIP pass can be purchased through AmaWaterways for $45/C$60 per person (2025) / $50/C$65 per person (2026). For this fee you will be met on arrival by an AmaWaterways Representative on arrival, given your Visa and escorted through Immigration. This service is available to guests arriving on Day 1 in Cairo or for guests that have purchased extra nights through AmaWaterways and can be purchased at least 35 days prior to departure. Guests who have made independent arrangements in Cairo before the start of the program can apply for a single entry visa online prior to travel. Apply at www.visa2egypt.gov.eg. Passport validation at least six (6) months after the scheduled return date to your home country and 2 empty Visa labeled pages are required.
Jordan: AmaWaterways will obtain your single-entry visa and is complimentary. You will receive your visa on arrival by your uniformed AmaWaterways Representative who you will meet prior to Immigration once you deplane. Passport Validation at least six (6) months after the scheduled return date to your home country. 2 empty Visa labeled pages required.
Dubai: Visa not required. Passport Validation at least six (6) months after the scheduled return date to your home country. 2 empty Visa labeled pages required.
