We recently embarked on a captivating 4-night river cruise aboard AmaWaterways' AmaDante, sailing from Paris to Vernon along the scenic Seine River. With an intimate and elegant atmosphere, this beautifully appointed river cruise ship carried us through charming French villages, historic sites, and breathtaking landscapes. The AmaDante proved to be an exceptional home base for exploring France’s rich culture, storied past, and culinary delights. Our Cruise Manager, Finton, ensured a seamless and engaging experience, making our journey truly memorable.
Itinerary & Excursions
Our voyage began in Paris, where we enjoyed a picturesque sail-out, taking in the city’s iconic skyline before gliding into the tranquil French countryside.
First Night in Paris
On our first evening onboard, we toasted our upcoming adventure with a glass of champagne, savoring the magical moment as the Eiffel Tower’s lights shimmered at the top of the hour. This unforgettable view set the tone for an extraordinary journey. Following this enchanting spectacle, we indulged in a welcome onboard dinner, a delightful introduction to the ship’s exceptional culinary offerings and warm hospitality.
Les Andelys & Château Gaillard
Our first stop was Les Andelys, a picturesque riverside town nestled along the Seine. After a morning class onboard, we took a leisurely afternoon excursion into town before boarding a bus to Château Gaillard. Perched high above the river, this medieval fortress, built by Richard the Lionheart, provided breathtaking panoramic views of the Seine and the rolling French countryside. As we explored the ruins, we were transported back in time, discovering the castle’s dramatic history and strategic importance.
Vernon & Château de Bizy
The next day, we arrived in Vernon, a town known for its half-timbered houses and Impressionist influences. We embarked on a guided excursion to Château de Bizy, an 18th-century Baroque palace once home to Napoleon Bonaparte’s brother. Walking through its stately halls and manicured gardens, we enjoyed a delightful tasting of local cider and cheese—a true highlight of our visit. Embracing the charm of the period setting, we learned the art of curtsying, an entertaining nod to 18th-century etiquette, before being treated to a traditional dance performance by elegantly dressed local performers.
Paris Photo Shoot
On our final morning, I joined my colleagues for a private photo shoot, organized exclusively for our group. Against the backdrop of Paris’s most picturesque locations, we captured stunning professional photographs, creating cherished memories to take home from this unforgettable voyage.
Following the photo shoot, I embarked on a late morning boat cruise on the Seine, capturing breathtaking video and photos of the city's most stunning architecture. The perspective from the water provided a fresh and captivating view of Paris, showcasing its iconic landmarks from a unique vantage point.
Life Onboard AmaDante

From the moment we stepped aboard, the AmaDante exuded warmth and sophistication. The ship featured spacious staterooms, gourmet dining, and inviting social spaces, creating the perfect balance of relaxation and enrichment. Sailing with fewer than 144 passengers ensured an intimate and personalized experience.
Captain Jerome expertly navigated the Seine, delivering a smooth and picturesque journey. Hotel Manager Peter and his dedicated crew provided impeccable service, enhancing every moment of our trip. Alex Pinelo (Senior Vice President of Sales) was onboard with us, offering valuable insights into AmaWaterways’ commitment to luxury river cruising. My cabin 217 on Cello Deck (deck 2) featured a French Balcony, offering panoramic views of the Seine. At 170 sq ft, the stateroom provided a stylish and comfortable retreat, complete with a well-appointed shower.
Dining & Entertainment
Dining aboard the ship was a true highlight, with chef-prepared gourmet meals that beautifully reflected the region's flavors. Each dish was thoughtfully paired with local wines, offering an authentic taste of Normandy and beyond. One of the most memorable experiences was dining at the Chef’s Table, a specialty restaurant located at the back of the ship. This intimate venue features a glass-enclosed kitchen, where guests can watch the chefs expertly craft a 7-course tasting menu, making it a truly immersive dining experience. The presentation, flavors, and perfectly paired wines made this an experience not to be missed, a must for any food enthusiast looking to elevate their onboard dining.
Evening entertainment, including live music performances and engaging cultural presentations, added to the ambiance. On our final night, we were treated to a lively cabaret show featuring talented local performers showcasing their singing and dancing skills. The spirited atmosphere made for a festive and memorable conclusion to our time onboard.
